And thus ends my run of s-alliteration titles – it’s been fun but all good things have to come to an end right? Anyway, enjoy this post about our first 2 days in Kauai!
Day 10: Arrival
Not too much happened on our first day, but we got settled in our hotel in the town of Poipu and did some exploring of the coastline and surrounding area (including the Kilauea lighthouse and Queens Bath). Our hotel had an incredible view and the rocky beaches made for some awesome pictures! Unfortunately, these came at the risk of getting drenched by a big wave – something that I avoided (for the most part), although I can’t say the same for my brother!
Day 11: Kalalau Trail
Our second day on Kauai was spent hiking the first 2 miles of the famous Kalalau Trail – something I had been looking forward to the whole time! The whole trail is 11 miles, but the first 2 are more hiker friendly, though the trail was in no way easy! It was rocky, narrow, and in some places, very slippery, but the views were breathtaking. Some of Jurassic Park was filmed on Kauai, and after being there, it’s very clear why it was chosen. The land has a prehistoric feeling and the colors are, to quote an extremely accurate description from an article I read, “…so trippy they looked like they came from a Crayola box.” I’ll put a link to that article below if you want to check it out. After the hike, we treated ourselves to some Hawaiian shave ice, which is like a sno cone, but fluffier and in my opinion, much tastier.
And so our first 2 days on Kauai came to an end. Look below for the pictures and stay tuned for the final installment of the Hawaii posts!
